Moving on to the Coromandel Region

On Wednesday, February 22, it was time to move on to the Coromandel Region, after spending the morning catching up with some of my nearest and dearest on Skype.

The drive to Whitianga, my base, took around six hours. Unfortunately, as the weather had turned to cloud and rain, I couldn’t fully enjoy the views as I went across the mountains, but it was cool driving along the winding roads through the jungle, especially as there was virtually no other traffic. However, I had a bit of a panic that I was going to run out of petrol.

It was dark by the time I arrived at the YHA hostel in Whitianga. Shortly before I got there, a creature lolloped into the road right in front of me. I think it was a possum, but it was very nearly a squashed possum.
